SHEET 03How it worksSeven stages

From drawing to tender.

Seven stages, each one a real transformation of a real sheet. The machine does the repetitive observation; the engineer takes responsibility; rules do the arithmetic nobody should be doing by hand at midnight.

  1. 01

    Ingest

A sheet arrives as a PDF or a DWG, at whatever scale the consultant plotted it. It is registered against the project from its own title block — drawing number, revision, level, discipline — so that when Revision D lands it knows what it supersedes. Nothing in the drawing body is read yet.

      Read

The sheet is understood before anything is counted. Layers are separated so services can be told from architecture, the plotted scale is confirmed against a known dimension rather than trusted, and the project legend is parsed — because the same triangle is a different device on the next job.

        Detect

Symbols are matched against this project’s legend and proposed as observations. Each carries a location, the evidence it was matched on, and a single ring on a dashed leader — the notation for a claim nobody owns yet. None of this is a quantity.

        Verify

An engineer works the sheet — confirming, correcting, rejecting, and adding what the system missed. A confirmed observation takes the second ring and a solid leader. This is the step that converts a machine’s opinion into a person’s responsibility, and it is the one the product will not skip.

        Quantify

Engineering rules turn verified observations into quantities. A door becomes five devices. Outlets aggregate into ports, patch panels and switch capacity. A lane width selects a boom length. Every derived number keeps a link to the rule that produced it and the observation it started from.

        QA

Checks run across documents, not within one. A plan count that disagrees with its schedule. A device outside every zone. A room with power and no data. A quantity that moved between revisions without a cloud to explain it. Each becomes a query on the drawing, addressed to a person.

        BOQ

Approved quantities — and only approved quantities — are released to pricing. The BOQ is not the end of the audit trail; it is the top of it. Any line opens backwards through the rule that derived it, the engineer who approved it, and the exact place on the sheet it came from.

Seven stages, and a person is accountable at every one.

Nothing in this pipeline produces a number that cannot be opened. Ingest records which revision a quantity belongs to. Read records what a symbol was taken to mean. Detect records what was observed and on what evidence. Verify records who confirmed it. Quantify records which rule ran. QA records what was questioned and who answered. BOQ records what was approved, and by whom.

That is what makes the output defensible in a tender review — not the detection, which is only the first stage of seven.
